Council Tax Payments

If you are experiencing problems paying or have fallen behind with your payments, please contact us immediately on 03451 55 11 55 so we can help get you back on track. If you have not paid the amount due or contacted us to make a payment arrangement we will take further action to collect the total amount due.

Ways to pay

Direct Debit  

Over 101,000 Fife residents now pay their council tax by Direct Debit, this is the simplest and most convenient way to pay.

You will have the added option of spreading the cost from April to March and paying weekly, fortnightly or monthly (you can pay on the 1st or 15th of the month).

Set up or change an existing Direct Debit online or call 03451 55 11 55 and press 3 during the introduction. You can now register to manage your council tax account online which allows you to:

  • Check your council tax details
  • Apply  for discounts
  • Sign up for Direct Debit
  • Report Changes
  • View bills online (paperless billing)
  • Have 24/7 access your council tax account


Pay Online 
Pay online by entering your council tax account number and credit/debit card details. You can also make a payment by registering to manage your council tax online.  If you're already registered, sign in here.

Telephone payments
Telephone payments – to make a payment by debit or credit card call our 24 hour automated line on 03451 55 00 55.  You will need your council tax account number and debit/credit card details.* please note there is no charge for debit card payments but there will be a charge of 1.25% for credit card payments.

Mobile Pay
Use your mobile to pay your council tax by debit/credit card. You will need to Register to make a payment.

Digital Banking
Pay your council tax using your online banking system by entering the following sort code and account number.  You will also need your council tax account number.

Post Office
You can pay your bill at any post office by taking along your latest council tax bill.

Pay at any PayPoint by taking along your latest council tax bill.  To find your nearest PayPoint outlet visit (links to an external website).

Postal Payments
Cheques should be crossed and made payable to 'Fife Council' and sent to:
Banking and Investment Team,
Fife Council,
North Street,

Please make sure you write your council tax account number on the back of your cheque.

Fife Council has a corporate debt policy which provides information and advice to customers who may be experiencing problems with multiple debts owed to the Council.
